Films And Television Programs Affect Our Lives
by baryantFor the first time I saw the movie martial arts in the local cinema, I told myself that I want to be a great fighter like Bruce Lee. I think I was a hero only waiting an opportunity to show my fighting skills. In my obsession I went to local schools of karate to learn how to blow, blow, and usually sent from another person with ease.
What I experienced in school was quite different than I imagined it.
First, I learned that there is no heroism involved in the fighting. Only fools fight among themselves. In addition, they break down, arms and bruises all over his body for anything. Learning karate is a difficult task. It is one that requires discipline and perseverance. After all the hard sessions in the ‘dojo’ karate practitioner will have no desire to go with all his strength to fight with anyone. He knows that the consequence would be, so he avoids a fight.
So in that aspect, I would say with certainty that the films are harmful. They gave me a misconception that martial arts is all about. It is with some sadness when I see some young guys showing what little they know about the fight they have. I was lucky that a good teacher who taught me the inner aspects of martial arts. I learned to be humble and gentle, very different from the arrogant hero of the film, which could kill 100 bad guys without batting an eye.
Violence on television and movies also do a lot of harm spectators. One movie that I saw there was nothing but the murder after murder. People are killed all over the place all sorts of ways. Guns, knives, bombs and other kinds of murders tools were shown without interruption. It was like a holiday, where murder is the main activity. I actually felt sick and disoriented in the middle of the show, and had to leave to maintain some semblance of common sense. How will this affect the movie who sat through the whole show? I am sure that their brains are filled with images of violence. I just hope that they do not go out and imitate what they saw.
Not all of these harmful effects. Just when they are carried to extremes, that we lose contact with ourselves and so are living in a fantasy world.
In real life, nobody can fight with a hatchet embedded in his abdomen. Only heroes can do it. In addition, we can not hope to defeat 50 opponents, not looking up from his sweat. People died in real life car crashes. Only heroes flee minor scratches. The reality has nothing to do with this show.
Fortunately, not all films and television programs are harmful. Documentaries and educational programs, of course, useful. I learned a lot about the wildlife and people, their customs and traditions. In short these programs gave me a better understanding of the world in which we live, the dangers we face, our heritage and responsibilities we have, if we want to live in peace.
So to you, the viewer, to decide what type of programs you want to watch. You can fill in the brains of any nastiness of violence and killing, or you can learn more about yourself and the world, so that you could live like that nature intended for you.
